When reading difficult biblical passages, such as those where Jesus appears to dismiss His mother, it is a mistake to interpret them in isolation or through a purely personal lens. The true meaning of Scripture must be found within the 2,000-year tradition of the Church that Jesus Himself established. Jesus is not denigrating Mary but is instead elevating all believers by teaching that anyone who does the will of God—as Mary did most perfectly—is welcomed into His intimate family.
