God had directed Abraham’s family into Egypt where for 400 years, they grew into a nation. Although they were saved from famine and were kept culturally intact by forced segregation, the Egyptians enslaved them. So Yahweh, acting on His covenant with Abraham, sent Moses to lead the people out. God made this happen through a series of ten judgment plagues that became part of the Exodus event. Through the Exodus, God revealed a lot about Himself. He proved to the Israelites, the Egyptians, the surrounding nations and everyone else that He alone is God. He is sovereign over all.
