13: A Fogcutter Christmas

Listen Later

It’s the Pints of View Christmas Special and Pete has arrived with a bomber of Fogcutter Double IPA from Lost Coast Brewery — loud hops and louder opinions guaranteed. We begin by arguing the real centrepiece of Christmas: turkey or ham? (There’s gravy, maple syrup and fruit-pie collateral damage.) From there we launch into our Top 10 Christmas movies — a list assembled from nostalgia, emotional manipulation and sheer quotability — and fight bitterly over who deserves the top spot.

The episode is a festive mash-up: UK and Australian holiday traditions rub shoulders with Czech/Prague customs (yes, fresh fish on the menu), John Lewis advert chat, and the animated warmth of The Snowman. We take train-ride detours to The Polar Express (Tom Hanks) and The Orient Express as mood music, then warm up to the classics: Miracle on 34th Street and It’s a Wonderful Life. There’s also a deliberately ridiculous “Who Would Win?” segment — Santa versus Kevin McCallister is the highlight — plus a generous sprinkling of dad jokes, Rolling Stones singalongs (a seasonal twist on Satisfaction) and a cheeky nod to Sean Connery.

Foodie notes abound: pairing Fogcutter with anything from sausage stuffing to a sticky mince pie; debating whether a double IPA can sit next to gravy without starting a fight; and whether maple syrup has a place on the Christmas table (the team is divided). We finish with goodwill, a few seasonal recommendations, and a plea: tell us your favourite Christmas film and whether you’d rather watch baubles or bad dad-dancing this year. Merry chaos and happy listening.
