Abundant Avocado

John lived in the heart of a very green tree.  It was huge and provided a lot of shade during the hot summer months. It had some odd-looking green fruit which was very hard.  Occasionally one of the fruits would fall down with a thump.  This always frightened him as it was very loud.  As the colder weather approached John suddenly lost his job.  His pantry started to look empty.  He worried as he realised winter is on the way and he would be without food.  He started looking for what he could gather but realised that he was already too late.  The animals had already harvested their winter reserves.

He sat under his tree, slowly eating the last of his berry stash when that green fruit dropped. This time not with a thump, but more a splotch.  John picked up the fruit. It was soft to the touch and a soft yellowy green paste was oozing out where the skin was broken.  Gingerly he tasted it.  It was amazing!  Rich and creamy and soft.  John looked up at the tree and saw lots and lots of green fruit, ripening and waiting to be eaten.  With a whistle and a spring in his step, he smiled, grabbed a branch, swung into the tree and enjoyed his abundance.

Yes, of course it was an avocado tree.

Last week this story was sent as an email in my newsletter, were you able to check the pronunciation for some of the words.
