TANNING/TANNING BED FACTS:

  • In 1890, the Danish physician Niels Ryberg Finsen developed a prototype that produced ultraviolet radiation for use in treating skin conditions. He won the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work. He used red light therapy to treat Lupus patients. 
  • story states that French designer Coco Chanel popularized the trend of tanning after accidentally tanning in the French Riviera in 1923. 
  •  In 1970, Friedrich Wolff, a German physiologist and embryologist, invented the first tanning device.
