Yes, they are loud, bulky, polluting, and can be expensive to run. But if they are employed for very limited time, and for some situations, they may be a smart complement to an off grid renewable system. Here, I discuss on ways how to reduce cost, noise, and pollution while using a backup gas powered generator.
