The death of Bridget Cleary, nee Boland, is known as "the last witch burned in Ireland" due to the circumstances surrounding her death in 1895. 

On March 15, 1895, Bridget, the wife of cooper Michael Cleary, was burned to death by her husband and family members under the suspicion that she was possessed by a faerie. In truth, she was nothing more than the tragic victim of illness and superstition.
