After finding out about a gambling problem, many family members take control – of finances and fixing things. It’s an understandable and sometimes needed reaction. However, recovery usually looks more like a marathon than a sprint. Spouses and family often approach the start line already exhausted and stressed.

It can help for family to step back and take care of themselves. There is a place for working together and providing support, but with the gambler taking the lead.
