Web of Spider-Man 101 begins after Spider-Man is left in an alley with broken ribs, Cloak and Dagger come to his rescue teleporting him back to the Holy Ghost Church. They are then ambushed by Shriek and the Spider-Doppelganger. Carnage arrives and things start to go downhill for the heroes. At that moment in San Francisco, Venom stops a mugging and catches the news report about Carnage's message to the Daily Bugle. Venom realizes that New York City needs him and that he can't let his offspring continue on.
