Fam! welcome back to the podcast. Today I’m feeling all hot and bothered about defining who your business is here to service and why that is so important. So this episode is going to be my hot take on that. Your ideal dreamy client, who your business is in existence to serve, why that matters and how to apply it to your business.
It’s a tale as old as time in entrepreneurship that many of you, as you begin your journey, will think they’re product or service is for everyone.
That there isn’t one person on this planet who their product or services can’t help. And, they might not be wrong. Maybe it can help large groups of diverse people.
But truthfully, you do not want it to. You aren’t for everyone. You are not. And you don’t want to be for everyone. All it takes is one really misaligned client or customer who doesn’t quite get you or what you are here to do to prove to you that maybe you I’m right, maybe everyone might be too broad of a brush stroke.
Getting clear on this can literally change your business.

And I get it, when you are early in business and make little to no money, you’ll want to take any opportunity you get. And sure you can, but you’ll quickly find yourself in the exact same situation you did working a full time job that you hate doing things that are misaligned. We are not here for that. We are here to build conscious businesses – which I define as purpose-driven, heart-aligned and heart-led. Ones that feel good to be in (most of the time).
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again because it bears repeating - the #1(of I would say 5) things that I remember and still take with me in life almost 2 decades later, from my 4 year university degree in marketing is this – I’ll save you the tuition fee and give it to you for free ( you are welcome)
If you try to speak to everyone, you end up speaking to no one.
And the other side of that truth is when you narrow your focus to one. One dreamy ideal client who ticks all the boxes and who is with you for the long haul and you speak DIRECTLY to them – you are clear on who you are and how you help them, they are clear on who you are and how you help them and so is everyone else. Then the ‘everyone’ group can choose if they want to work with you or not. Get it. By speaking to the one, you clearly articulate to everyone (whether directly or indirectly).i
This is why defining who you are here for is a business anchor. One of the most important things you will do for your business.
