#130 - Corya Channing

Listen Later

Corya Channing is a retired college professor teaching communication and drama courses in her career, spending more than 20 years at Purdue Northwest. She joins her nephew Jimmy from Miller Beach in Gary, Indiana to talk about her experiences in the classroom, how communication has changed over the years, and what that means for the survival of American democracy. Corya documents her role as editor of Noblesville High School's newspaper, working many late nights alongside her mom & Jimmy's grandmother Beba to complete it. Beba's popularity as the journalism instructor was part of what inspired Corya to become a teacher. Both Jimmy & Corya provide methods to prevent stage fright and the fear of public speaking. Finally, Corya shares the best advice she has received in her career for anyone thinking about becoming a teacher.
