John has written, "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another" (1 John 4:11) and just a bit later "...whoever loves God must also love his brother" (21). Yes, grace is unconditioned, but it is not unconditional. There are things we must/ought to do as our response to God's grace. Dallas Willard has written, "Grace is not opposed to effort, it is opposed to earning. Earning is an attitude. Effort is action."
