Gender Bias In Corporate America

We have been taught through story lines, media, and things we see and hear that leadership characteristics that we see are masculine. Because leadership is seen as masculine, still, even us women buy into the narrative that we must be as "strong" as men. Because of this unconscious bias, we allow ourselves to be held back in corporate America. Bernadette says that men seem to complain less. Mory suggests that men seem to maybe complain less because they don't ask for permission from higher ups, but rather go ahead and assume leadership roles. Women feel they need to ask permission before changing something. We must talk about these things in order to clear them up in corporate America. We realize some of these topics can upset some people, but we must talk about these things!

It is important when we talk diversity and inclusion that we include the modern day woman in that conversation, too. Bernadette asks if corporations are doing better in equality for men and women. Mory says she is loving seeing the training that is being implemented. What she loves best is the open conversations with amazing facilitators to facilitate conversations that trigger questions for both men and women about their experience in the workplace. There is change happening! Let's keep an open mind. Mory says to get to know yourself really well, and become in relationship with your strengths.
