138. Making Tough Decisions: Ego or Data
We all have to make hard decisions in our lives, but I truly feel that the more we talk about them with others, the more we can help each other out in different ways through these real life moments. Today I want to share with you a key framework I use to base how I make difficult decisions with logic when emotions can get in the way. I’ve specifically used this within my business and career, but can also be applied to your personal life if needed! I’ve provided great questions for you to reflect on in the highlights below, and strongly encourage you to take the time after this episode to go through them so you can ultimately take MORE ACTION!
Episode Highlights:
• [4:35] - Relying on gut feeling and intuition at the start of your business, but slowly moving to looking back on experience and evidence the more you grow.
• [8:05] - First way to make decisions- Reflection based questions:
- What would I need or what would need to happen to make my decision be true? Or false?
- Does this decision get me closer to my goal or does it pull me away?
- How does this decision affect the people or clients I am serving?
- Who is preventing me from making the decision? What is stopping me?
• [11:55] - “Invert, always invert,” by taking your decisions and flipping them upside down to look at the possible outcomes of making it or not.
• [13:30] - Second way to make decisions: Data taken towards your business and/or goal.
• [16:28] - Looking for your data will help you understand how to allocate resources and remove the ego from making tough decisions for your business in the future.
• [18:55] Sharing a recent decision made in our business using this method.
