14. Monday Moment #8 - Self Care Tip #1 - Get Your Sleep!

Listen Later

Are you a sleep procrastinator? Are you choosing to stay up too late and put off bedtime and getting caught in a self-induced trap of pushing off sleep in order to "feel" in control of your time? With all the approach stress of the holiday season.

Maybe consider grabbing more sleep, making it a priority, or practicing some sleep preparation. The Wall Street Journal had an article this past week that got my attention after speaking to our last guest Dr. Tara Pasha. In a recent study by the University of Arkansas and published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology, the average self-reported time people spent delaying bedtime was 1hr. 49mins. among patients who had sought help for behavioral health issues. According to the CDC's study in 2020, more than a third of US adults report getting less than 7hrs of sleep per night. We all know that it isn't always about quantity but also about the quality of sleep. There are many factors that impact the quality of your sleep.

I wanted to understand the quality of sleep I was getting because I have never really been one to sleep past 6-6:30 am, ever! That's where my focus on improving my sleep has been in my health journey. I used a device called the Oura ring to help me. Link Here. It has been enlightening to see how food, alchol, and exercise/movement all help my sleep quality.

Sleep is linked to all sorts of health benefits and the lack or worse the poor quality of sleep can have even greater negative effects on our long-term health and mental wellness. So this Monday I encourage you to start your self-care off this holiday season by getting some snooze time in.

Even though it's Halloween - Go get some sleep!

As always thank you for listening. Drop me a DM on Instagram to let me know your thoughts on sleep or if you want some of my tips and tricks.
