On this special episode of Our Storytellers, we’re joined by Mohawk Artist and Filmmaker, Shelley Niro. Shelley was born in Niagra Falls, New York, however she is a member of the Turtle Clan, Bay of Quinte Mohawk Grand River Reserve.
Café Daughter
Shelley is celebrating the theatrical launch of Café Daughter. Shelley directed and co-produced the film, which tells the story about Yvette Wong, a young half Nehiyaw and Chinese person who is on the journey to become a doctor in 1960’s Saskatchewan. The story is based on a true story of Dr. Lillian Eva Quan Dyck.

International Retrospective Art Exhibition: Shelley Niro: 500 Year Itch
In addition to releasing a film, Shelley’s international retrospective exhibition Shelley Niro: 500 Year Itch is touring across North America. Here are the dates and location of the exhibition:
Art Gallery of Hamilton - Now until May 26.
National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa) - June 21 until August 25
Vancouver Art Gallery - September 28 until February 2, 2025
Remai Modern (Saskatoon) - Spring 2025
