A Piece Of The Attraction

#14: Social Media Is Destroying People

Listen Later

Four years ago I deleted my social media apps from my phone, and even disconnected the access to my emails from my phone too. If I need to update my social media accounts I do it the old fashioned way via my laptop, which iI rarely take with me outside of the house. On top of all that I don't have an Instagram account. Never have, and hopefully never will. By doing this, I feel that I can appreciate daily experiences more thoroughly, as I don't have the constant urge to constantly share them with others just so that I can collect 'likes' or 'retweets'. Being a slave to social media and the opinions of others (who you don't even know) is not only time consuming, but can also be stressful, and can even lead to anxiety and depression. I've seen social media literally destroy people, and although people often praise the idea of 'digital detoxes' it seems that the majority of them will continue to sink into the envy inducing world of social media again and again. But social media also has some amazing benefits which would be unfair to ignore. Benefits such community building, staying in touch with friends, making news friends, and of course, if like me you own a business, then you will know how useful social media is in helping you promote your brand to an audience that not long ago you wouldn't have been able to access. However, I maintain that getting rid of social media apps from your phone for good, and limiting the time you spend on social media will massively enhance your wellbeing and save you time in order to get REAL STUFF done. Myself and my guest for this episode, Hadassa, feel very strongly about this subject, hence why the producer of the show let us run well over the regular one hour mark.
