Steven Seagal started out in LA as an Aikido black belt with his own gym and no desire to be an actor. By the early 90's he was one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood. It was all downhill from there as his movies became increasingly straight to video/DVD releases and began to diversify into music and even sheriff work to try and stat relevant.
