Today we're talking to a fellow Lauren who is ALSO a surface pattern designer! Lauren Lesley is an independent artist and licensed textile designer. If you are at all interested in getting into the surface pattern design world this episode is going to be a reeeally amazing resource for you. And for those of you wondering what surface pattern design is, it's basically the artwork that goes on surfaces that are mass-manufactured. So think patterns that go on blankets, clothing, curtains, pillows.... remember we talked to Michelle Parascandolo who had designed a pattern for shoelaces...pretty much anything you can put a repeatable pattern on. So Lauren goes into detail about what it's like working in the industry, her opinions on getting a college degree in this field, pros and cons of working with an agent vs. presenting at trade shows. Lauren has had years and years of experience in the textile and surface pattern design industry, she's had a rug she designed sold in Target, and she doesn't hold anything back in this episode or in her courses she teaches.
