If you listen to this podcast, you know we dish out the real, real, we give it how it is and don’t sugar coat anything. This episode is no different if you are someone who struggles with abuse, addiction, or anything along those lines. This episode might be triggering for you, but I encourage you to listen if that is you, because this episode may shed some light on the light at the end of the addiction tunnel.
This is a topic that has been highly requested in my DM’s, and I know that there are people out there who are struggling with addiction, whether it is a current or past addiction, or whether it is something that you may think is not strong enough to be considered an addiction. Addiction comes in all forms; it can come up as a food addiction or has a Netflix addiction. If you are finding yourself every Monday saying you will make a change and then giving up by Friday, it is time to break the cycle.
Our guest Anneke Gyulavary, is a naturopath student and certified personal trainer from Melbourne, Australia. She joins us to share her recovery story. She also shares with us why many people are predisposed to addiction due to abuse in our childhoods, and how she went from a small town gal with so many possibilities to being consumed by her addiction.
Important moments to tune in for in this personal development podcast:
2:35 Anneka’s intro
5:04 The signs of addiction that Anneka now sees in her childhood that no one picked up on.
11:30 The real risk of testing with drugs and debunking ‘the gateway drug.’
19:30 Why Anneke sees addiction as a disease and realized her use of drugs was a problem.
23:17 How shame and guilt play a role in overcoming addiction and distract us from achieving the goals we set for ourselves.
