This week, we review Galaxy Quest (1999), Dean Parisot’s cult-favorite sci-fi comedy that lovingly parodies—and pays tribute to—classic space operas and fandom culture. Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman star as washed-up actors from a defunct sci-fi TV series who are mistaken for real space heroes by an alien race in desperate need of help. Thrust into a real interstellar conflict, they must rise to the occasion using nothing but their scripted catchphrases and questionable improvisation skills.
