Go To Grow - with Melissa MacGowan

15: How I “do it all” - a strong team at home

Listen Later

Today I ponder... I  often get asked how I 'do it all', how do you work in a senior leadership capacity, travel, keep fit, have a social life, cook, stay connected and of course be a mum to four kids?! I bypass the 'doing it all' conversation and go straight to my home team.

Teamwork starts at home and whilst that sounds cheesy, it makes all the difference when you consider what you can achieve and receive together. We have worked at this over many years, learning and challenging ourselves as we go. We now have a simple set of processes we follow to help us set goals together, considering our own individual and family needs as well as work, finances, community etc.  Annual wrap-up and reflection  Set intentions and goals together,  check-in weekly, support each other, stay aligned and flexible,  quarterly reviews.

Getting on the same page to meet the needs of yourselves and your family does not just happen organically. Work at it to avoid resentment, dysfunctional patterns, and entrenched roles and responsibilities. If you have a better name for the 'Marriage Meeting' - let me know! And don't forget to 'plan for fun!'
