In this episode Mike Iarossi and Matt Wilson continue their chat about leadership.
Mike takes a hard run at defining the entities and attributes that characterise good leadership in this five-point list beginning with a pre-supposition: A good leader is one who modifies the current state. As opposed to maintaining it.
1. The leader must provide an unambiguously clear definition of purpose…as in moving away from the current state and towards the future state.
2. The leader must disseminate this clear unambiguous view of both the beacon on the hill and the path one must walk in order to arrive at that beacon.
3. The leader must possess a precise understanding of the current capabilities and technologies of their team or organisation and augment or develop as necessary.
4. The leader must inspire and achieve sufficient change through the actions of their team. Action is key here. No action, no change.
5. The change that the leader brings about must be an improvement! Not all change is an improvement.
