I'm currently studying to earn my Masters of Clinical Social Work, and I've been seeing counseling clients as part of my first clinical internship. Recently, one of my clients came to an insight about their life that made me feel both seen and called out in my own stuff, something that happens fairly often.
My clients are always teaching me. They hold the mirror up to my own patterns and they share insights that teach me about being human. This week, we discuss the value of showing up to the counseling space as a human, how to do that within the container and boundaries of a helping relationship, and how the lesson is ultimately to remain a perpetual student. Then, we practice a guided meditation from that seat of the student, embracing beginner's mind and the newness of the present moment.
