If I spend my entire childhood with an experience that my effort is for others, whenever they demand it of me; I will develop an EXTRINSIC relationship with what my effort can create. It can make me an obedient student. It can memorize dates and algorithms, my effort. But do I love this kind of effort? Is it meaningful to me? What if I efforted on my own behalf? Do I know what that looks like? Am I grounded in myself when I take on something?
