Amelie Ning Kang is a restauranteur, chef and the owner of MáLà Project. The East Village Chinese dry pot restaurant that’s constantly packed also has a couple locations uptown in New York City but you know I don’t go above 14th street.

Recognized for her culinary talent, dedication to the hospitality industry, and for leading the wave of new Chinese restaurants in New York City, Amelie was named on Eater’s Young Guns list in 2018, and Forbes 30 Under 30 and Eater New Guard of New York in 2020.

I’ve been to the East Village location once before and was surprised I’ve never had dry pot before. I’m glad I was able to catch them again with new friend Mimi since she finally had a day off but next time I’ll be bringing friend and collaborator Nikko Gary to the next one. I love that we were able to choose our spice levels, the menu was fun and easy to read, and you know when people skip out on desserts because they’re full. This is an exception. You have to.
