Eric carried shame, guilt, anger, bitterness, and emotional trauma from being sexually abused in his early teens. He coped by adopting a “win-at-all-costs” mentality. He couldn’t do anything without trying to be the very best at it because he needed to cover up what was going on so people wouldn’t ask questions about what might be happening inside his life. This went on for over 20 years until he had a profound encounter with God that led him onto a path of complete healing.
