Summary: Anthropic had quite the week. Kicked out of the Pentagon, labeled a "supply chain risk" (a designation usually reserved for Chinese state-linked companies), only for Dario Amodei to be back at the negotiating table days later. Sam Altman, meanwhile, swooped in suspiciously fast to fill the gap, which didn't go unnoticed. Over a million and a half people quietly migrated to Claude, pushing it to number one on the App Store for the first time in its life. The irony being, of course, that Anthropic are perfectly happy building lethal autonomous weapons. They just want Americans kept out of the blast radius.
On the quieter but arguably more interesting side of things, Google dropped a native command line interface for the entire Workspace ecosystem, which is the kind of boring plumbing update that builders absolutely lose their minds over, and rightly so. AI agents can now talk directly to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Sheets and more without the usual browser automation nonsense. NotebookLM also got a cinematic video upgrade, turning static slideshows into full motion AI-generated explainers. It's been a dense week.
