1876: Birth Anniversary of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, who was a Bengali novelist and short story writer of the early 20th century. He remains the most popular, translated, and adapted Indian author of all time.

1909: Popularly known as Anna or Arignar Anna, Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai was born today. He was the first Dravidian and first non-Congress leader to become the Chief Minister of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
