As kids who enter the world and go through brand new experiences, the memories we form pave the way to our beliefs about ourselves. Generally speaking, a lot of these beliefs evolve around how much we want to be liked - how much we want that fellow human approval. After all, it's apart of humanity to want to relate and connect with our own species. The issues that arise from this need for approval is that we compromise so much of our own inner voice and needs and fill our minds and energies with resentment. Oprah calls it the "disease to please," and when we place ourselves in a position to seek approval or behave in a way just so others will like us, over time resentment builds. This episode goes through the patterns around approval and where these usually form - home and school; the things we do so that our parents and the cool kids at school like us.
