David Pepose is a writer’s writer. He’s worked as a crime and politics reporter, wrote thousands of pieces as a comics reviewer and now he’s writing his own unique comic book series— Going to the Chapel and Spencer & Locke (with more projects to come).

During his interview with Shah Emami, David talks about his background as a reporter, promoting his books at conventions, learning to take rejection and criticism, how he got his first comics published, his time at DC Comics, bringing in new comic book fans, Spencer & Locke, Going to the Chapel, future projects and more!

Spencer & Locke (and it’s sequel— Spencer & Locke 2) is Shah’s favorite book by David. It’s a dark twist on Calvin & Hobbes as it tells the story of a traumatized cop and his… imaginary giant talking panther. David worked on S&L with artist Jose Santiago Jr. It’s dark as hell yet heartwarming and an addicting read.

The last issue of Going to the Chapel by Pepose and artist Gavin Guidry came out recently. It’s a heist book that takes place during a wedding. A rom-com crime story. Can’t go wrong with that.

Pepose proves he can put compelling spins on familiar genres, making his books heavy-hitters with seasoned and new comics readers alike.
