Leadership in a Nutshell

160. Always Adding Value

Listen Later

Kenny talks about the importance of adding value from a human perspective, such as confidence, believability, and vision. He argues that what leaders don't do can be even more important than what they do, as nonverbal communication is often just as powerful. He uses his own experience in accounting to emphasize the importance of reading financial income statements, taking the information from them, and using it to drive behavior and change the future results. He encourages listeners to think about whether they are adding or subtracting value when it comes to their own leadership qualities.

Kenny wants to emphasize that leaders should always strive to add value.  Kenny draws an example from Elon Musk to explain the concept of adding value. He explains that Musk's vision is so strong that it attracts people in droves. He then goes on to explain that adding value is not only possible in a positive way, but it can also be done in a negative way, citing Hitler as an example. Kenny teaches that adding value can be done in different ways such as in an Uber ride, at a restaurant, or with a team or client. This episode is about the importance of adding value to all types of interpersonal relationships.
