The 1619 project was published in August of 2019 marking the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first slaves in Virginia.
The 1619 project is an Pulitzer Prize winning, long-form journalism project developed by the New York Times. Its official mission is to reframe the United States’ history, by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of the National narrative.
The project worked with the Pulitzer Center to develop a curriculum, available to schools across the country. The Pulitzer Center is a journalism and education HUB that champions under-reported crisis.
