Taken from my book Be A job Magnet “Throughout my career I have often found it useful to utilise the following formula to identify if I am currently in the most

appropriate role to develop my career. There was a particular time when I felt disillusioned and did not know why. so I asked myself

the following:

•Was it the industry I was in?

•Was it the organisation I was in?

•Was it the team I was in?

•Was it my line manager?

•Was it the job?

•Was it the career prospects?

•Was it the salary and package?

I then scored each one of these out of 10. This was certainly not overly scientific but just my intuitive reaction. The conclusion I

came to was that I was reporting to a line manager who I believed would not assist me in developing my career. We were mismatched

in several areas, but fundamentally our value set was not aligned and this resulted in a large amount of conflict and stress. What it

also confirmed was that I was in the right industry and the right organisation with the right culture.”
