"I found the crown of France in the gutter. I picked it up with the tip of my sword and cleaned it, and place it atop my own head."
Ridley Scott's Napoleon (2023) follows the complex and intriguing life of one of the most well-known military leaders in history; a man that pulled France from the chaos of the French Revolution and made it into an empire that encompassed Europe.
Napoleon centres of it's titular figure, from his early days as a young army officer, his romance with Josephine de Beauharnais to becoming Emperor of the French and his subsequent defeat at the Battle of Waterloo.
In our review of this new historical epic we discuss the man himself, his military and personal lives and how Scott tries to embody it all in a 2 hour 38 minute film.
