On August 16th, Formula 1 history saw Nigel Mansell finally crowned World Champion. In our main feature, we head to the 1992 Hungarian Grand Prix, where Ayrton Senna claimed victory on the day Red Five sealed the title with five races to spare — capping one of the most dominant seasons the sport has ever seen.
We also revisit the 1970 Austrian Grand Prix, the first at the breathtaking Österreichring, where Ferrari scored a one–two finish and local hero Jochen Rindt made what would tragically be his final Formula 1 start.
And we close with the 1987 Austrian Grand Prix, a day of chaos and carnage that featured a deer on track, two aborted starts, and Nigel Mansell winning by nearly a minute.
It’s a journey from coronation to chaos — all on this day in racing’s rich and chequered past.
