There are many nameless women in the Bible, a lot of whom suffer terrible and senseless violence. One of these women is Jephthah’s daughter, whose story is told in Judges 11:29-40 in the Old Testament, where her father sacrifices her to honor God.

Jephthah’s daughter has been largely forgotten by many of us - including me! So Kelsey and I unpack the story and offer a feminist reading, relating it to the #MeToo movement and family separation at the US/Mexico border.

Kelsey Wallace has her Master of Divinity from Lancaster Theological Seminary and is a PhD student in the Bible and Cultures program at Drew Theological School. She is also in the process of being ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
