17 | The Recabites

Listen Later

On episode 17 of the Tshepishow Podcast - I explore the topic of alcohol.🍷 I’ve been thinking about this for years now! 😂 I’ve been curious about people’s reasons for drinking. I also discovered that I was wrong about alcohol with regards to scripture 🙊 I checked my own hypocrisy: eating swine 🐖 whilst spurning fermented grapes. 🍇 🙈 I’m changing my thinking as we speak... Thank you to every person who participated in my poll and answered my unending questions ♥️

I discuss my fear of addiction, dependency, rape and introducing alcohol to my children because of my own desires. I also share the importance of deciding what kind of lineage and legacy you would like to leave behind.

The purpose of this podcast is for you to challenge the reason that you drink - to establish whether you drink because you made the conscious decision to...or not. The right reason makes all the difference. External influences and environment play a huge role in the decisions we make whether we realise it or not. So consult God about it - He knows your life’s mission and purpose. He knows why He created you 😉 Luke 1:15

Drink and be merry 🥂 lol (as Christ permits ;))

“The Recabites' code of conduct resembled that of the Nazirites, who took a special vow of dedication to God (Nu 6). For two hundred years, they had obeyed their ancestors' vow to abstain from wine. While the rest of the nation was breaking its covenant with God, these people were steadfast in their commitment. God wanted the rest of his people to remain as committed to their covenant with him as the Recabites were to their vow. God had Jeremiah tempt the Recabites with wine to demonstrate their commitment and dedication. God knew they wouldn't break their vow.

There is a vivid contrast between the Rekabites and the other Israelites:

(1) The Rekabites kept their vows to a fallible human leader; the people of Israel broke their covenant with their infallible divine leader.

(2) Jonadab told his family one time not to drink, and they obeyed; God commanded the Israelites constantly to turn from sin, and they refused.

(3) The Rekabites obeyed laws that dealt with temporal issues; Israel refused to obey God's laws, which dealt with eternal issues.

(4) The Rekabites had obeyed for hundreds of years; Israel had disobeyed for hundreds of years.

(5) The Rekabites would be rewarded; Israel would be punished. We

are often willing to observe customs merely for the sake of tradition–how

much more should we obey God's Word because it is eternal!
