The Burnt Out Experience

Lauren was busting her butt in college and killing it. Once she graduated, she thought to herself, "Where's my job?"

She applied. She waited. She applied again and then her family started with the classic questions like: "What are you going to do with your degree?"

Lauren is already her biggest critic, so it was really rough to go through a period of what-the-hell-am-I-doing. She felt like a failure and like she couldn't do anything right. She accepted a part-time job to pay the bills, but it wasn't anything special.

After a awhile, even when Lauren felt so low, she thought that she would take a shot in the dark and ask for a job with one of her all-time favorite show hosts, David Tutera. They said no.

...at first. Two weeks later and they reached back out to Lauren and to offer her an internship. That internship turned into a position with the show she loved so much when she was younger. How INCREDIBLY cool.

How did she deal? Say no

If taking on one more thing or saying yes one more time means sacrificing your overall happiness, then say no.

Saying no to and serving yourself is so important and will ultimately help either prevent or resolve a lot of burnout situations.

Take time for you

Do what protects you at this moment.

Cry. Watch a movie. Talk to people. Sit in it. Feel it. Treat yourself with care. Cut yourself some slack.

Then move forward.

Want it

You gotta want it. It's okay to take that break and take time for yourself, but in the end, if you don't want it, you probably won't have it. Right?

Lauren took a major shot in the dark by reaching out to what she thought was an unreachable opportunity... but it wasn't! She got an amazing job that has propelled her to the success that she works for and enjoys today.
