Además de ser el octavo álbum en estudio de la banda, The Unquiet Sky marca la segunda década del conjunto desde su consolidación en 1995. Han habido, sin embargo, modificaciones en la formación: The Unquiet Sky supone el arranque de Kylan Amos como miembro bajista del grupo, en sustitución de John Jowitt (IQ). El resto de los integrantes continúan siendo los mismos, al menos desde 2010: Clive Nolan (Pendragon), Mick Pointer (Marillion), John Mitchell (Frost*) y Paul Manzi, quien desempeña por segunda vez su labor como vocalista, tras su debut en The Seventh Degree of Separation.
