Step 1 of the program of Alcoholics Anonymous teaches me that I am powerless over alcohol. Step 1 of Cocaine Anonymous says I'm powerless over cocaine and all mind-altering substances so they are including alcohol as well. What I see from my experience is that these mind-altering substances are my form of "store bought happiness" and that I am powerless over their consumption.

I have learned that I am powerless because I have a disease and that disease includes an allergy. My allergy causes me when I consume to want to consume more and more and more. The other thing my disease includes is in my mental and emotional condition. I have a habit of using the consumption of my store bought happiness to find ease and comfort from my "problems."
