#17:Faith In The Storms of Life

Mark 4:35-41


35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.


36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.


37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.


38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?


39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.


40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?


41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?



Mark 11:22


22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.




  • Storms often come at inconvenient times

  • Storms sometimes happen in the middle of God’s will

  • Despite the fact that they were the close to Jesus the storms still came.





    • Six questions about how we can get through the storms of life that we must ask ourselves.


      • 1. What did Jesus want them to do?


        • Jesus wanted them to take their problem to their father

        • There were three options that the disciples had


          • Wake Jesus up in their fear and ask for help. Which is what they did.

          • Keep bailing. They could have tried to handle the situation themselves.

          • Pray to their Father for help. Which is the first place we should go to when we have a problem of any magnitude.



          • Jesus’s primary rebuke was that they had no faith.









              • 2. How will Jesus respond to our storms?


                • He rebuked what caused the problem and calmed the troubling circumstances.

                • It is important for us to understand that God can solve our problems and deal with the difficult circumstances that result.









                    • 3. How do we respond to our storm?


                      • When we think of fear in this passage we think of the disciple’s reaction to the storm.

                      • Often times the fear of the storm is greater than the storm itself.

                      • There is another fear that the disciples had which was a fear of the Lord.

                      • When we face a storm do we focus on our fear of the storm or our fear of the Lord?
