Don’t Drift. Stay Dependent.

1 Peter 4:12-14, 5:6-11

What does it mean to live faithfully as Christians in a culture that increasingly does not understand Christian hope, values, or priorities?

In this message, Paul Mulroney explores Peter’s encouragement to believers living as “strangers in a strange land” — citizens of heaven navigating a world that often pulls us away from dependence on God.

While many Australian Christians may not experience persecution in the biblical sense, we do face other pressures:

  • distraction,
  • self-reliance,
  • anxiety,
  • spiritual drift,
  • cultural compromise,
  • and the temptation to live as though God is optional.

Drawing from 1 Peter 4–5, Paul unpacks two key themes:

  • dependence on God,
  • and the danger of spiritual drift.

This message explores how trials can refine our faith, why humility is really about dependence on God, and how modern life slowly draws our attention away from Christ.

Through personal stories, practical application, and pastoral encouragement, this sermon reminds us that:

The same God who calls us also strengthens us. The same God who refines us also restores us.

If you remember one thing from this message, remember this: Don’t drift. Stay dependent. Stay close to Jesus.
