In this episode, we talk about one of gaming’s most daring and iconic companies, RareRare was a U.K based developer who had a very close relationship with Nintendo and made some of the most popular games on the NES, SNES, and N64. Some of these titles include BattletoadsDonkey Kong Country, and 007 Goldeneye etc.

While we explore the history of Rare throughout the episode, we focus on offering unique commentary, analysis, and our personal experiences with their games to make the podcast more informative and interesting.

We were fascinated by the influence of the Stamper brothers and their innate drive and work ethic as well as their willingness to genre hop and take creative risks. We wanted to know just why Nintendo cozied up to Rare and what made their symbiotic relationship so successful. The episode ends with the divorce with Nintendo, speculation on the Microsoft era, and whether or not Rare can perform without their innovative founders.

There is a lot of information to sort through, but we are happy to dedicate episode 18 to one of our personal favorite developers. Rare is truly a rare case in the gaming universe.
