18. Excellent Business Model Crappy Marketing

Listen Later

I've been ragging on the network marketing industry for quite some time. So let's talk about the positives and the benefits of it because there definitely are quite a few. For one, the products are fantastic. And you'll notice that the reason you believe so much in the system of joining the network marketing opportunity is because you did fall in love with those products. Nine times out of 10 that's probably what it is. And you think since I like these products, why not make a business out of it, I'm spending the money on the products anyways. So why not turn my expense into a revenue? Very valid reason for going into business. Why is the model great? And why do people believe in it so much? Leverage.

The reason why the marketing methods suck, though, are because they teach you how to do it unleveraged. One on one meetings, coffee dates, asking every random person. There is no sustainability. And no real leverage there, you have to do all of the activity yourself, you have to also rely on others to do that same activity as yourself. And if it is hard for you to grasp it and do it consistently, it is definitely going to be hard for other people to do it as well. Not everybody's gonna have the same drive. So the methods of finding new people over and over and over again, are very tiresome. However, the reason the business model is fantastic is because you make a commission for selling a product, you get customer service with that, you get a warehouse, you get shipping and receiving, you get research and development, you do not have to spend the millions of dollars it would take to own a piece of let's say Sephora, for example, the makeup store. So if you are selling a makeup company for network marketing, for example, you get a chunk of that, like right out of the gate, you just have to spend a little bit of money to sign up a processing fee, for the most part, maybe buy some samples, and you're off to the races. Beautiful.

So the other benefit to that is you make a commission when you sell the product, a product that you're already using anyways. And you can make a commission when someone on your team also makes a sale. That to me is just affiliate marketing, which has existed for quite a long time. With the internet, Amazon, basically, they're as big as they are because of their affiliate marketing program. You can sell somebody else's product, make a commission and continue to sell that product, you do not have to own the product to make a commission from the product, you can start an Amazon store, sell some electronics through your link. And Amazon will reward you with commission from directing that sale. Creating that sale.

Network marketing is no different. The only difference is affiliate marketing is one level, you have the company that owns the product, then you have yourself that sells it and you can you make a commission from selling that product. With network marketing, however you make a commission from selling that product but you also then make a commission from somebody else that is part of your team that sells that product. It's called multi level marketing because there's unlimited amounts of levels, some companies max out at like seven levels or something like that. But that's pretty deep to begin with. You have the opportunity to earn commission on multiple people's efforts alongside your efforts. And you can train development, coach and do all of that stuff. I mean, it's multiple industries in one. You can satisfy your coaching and consulting needs. And you can share in that person's revenue that you are coaching and consulting. That is why I love the industry. I am a teacher and instructor. I facilitated before. I developed sales teams. Typically I don't share in the development of those sales teams as far as the commission that they produce from my teachings. But with network marketing or multi level marketing,
