This week’s episode is with my friend and law school classmate, William Igbokwe. William is presently a Domestic Violence Attorney at Legal Aid Services in Portland, Oregon, but he views his career in law as just a piece of the larger part of his life’s work as an advocate. In this interview, we discuss a wide range of issues (hence the lengthy title!) primarily related to the law and social justice and how these macro issues affect each of us on the micro level.
This interview is the first of many I will conduct with the intention of integrating social justice issues with those of the personal development and self-help sphere through open conversations about individuals’ experiences and belief systems—i.e., infusing social, cultural, and political issues into the health and wellness industry.
Always remembering that the true illusion in this life is that we were ever separate.
IN THIS EPISODE WE TALK ABOUT:
What sparked William’s interest in the law What sparked William’s interest in social justice and advocacy work William’s experience growing up in a small town in Texas as the son of Nigerian immigrants and as the self-proclaimed “token” African American in his classes What social justice means to William How his experiences in college at the University of Texas at Austin expanded his view of social justice beyond racial issues The difference between equality and equity His present work in domestic violence and his perception of his experience thus far Plus so much more…
