In which Bethanie and Ash discuss chapters 1-3 of Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead.
Rose Hathaway is struggling emotionally after Mason’s death and feeling restless at St. Vladimir’s Academy. She deals with complicated feelings—partly from her psychic bond with her best friend Lissa, which causes her to experience Lissa’s intimate moments and leaves her frustrated and jealous of Lissa’s relationship with Christian. Rose also wrestles with her growing love for her guardian instructor, Dimitri.
As the guardian field experience begins, Rose is upset to discover she’s assigned to protect Christian Ozera instead of Lissa. During her first simulated Strigoi attack, she freezes because she sees the ghost of her dead friend Mason, which alarms the teachers and leads to concern about her mental state.
By Chapter 3, Rose admits to seeing ghosts and is confronted by Dimitri and the school doctor about her stress and possible PTSD. They urge her to get help, but Rose insists she must stay active in her training, revealing how her internal struggles and grief are affecting her daily life.
