The tongue is a powerful force, but it can be controlled through the power of the Holy Spirit and the application of principles from God's Word. We will meditate on scriptural principles to control your mouth over the next few days. Here are the first three:

Get your heart right with God:

The first step in gaining victory over the tongue is to get your heart right with God because...

... those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies; These are the things which defile a man... (Matthew 15:18-20)

Your mouth will speak what is in your heart. If your heart is not right, your tongue will reveal it.
