Welcome to another episode of the Mama Trauma Barbie Podcast. I'm really excited about this one because I'm launching my new company, The Just District, a holistic family wellness center that revolutionizes family health care. There are a lot out here who are currently stuck in really complex health challenges, and we were one of them. About six years ago, my family had a child who was diagnosed with pediatric acute Onset Neuropsychiatric syndrome.
I'm also very excited to have my special guest, Christy Lorenc, a nurse practitioner. We'll go through that whole story here in a second. But she is one of my lead providers under the Joss district, and she is ridiculously amazing with hearts. She is amazing at her clinical knowledge and expertise in functional care. Christy is a lifelong nurse and student. She went to nursing school directly after high school, working as a nursing assistant while achieving her associates R.N. degree.
Christy started her career out in a medical-surgical unit where she learned the ropes of direct patient care and quickly developed into a leadership role. She married young and started a family with her first child at the age of 22, desiring more of a fast-paced, adrenaline-filled work setting, she transferred to a level one trauma school in the medical ICU, where she also earned her BSN from the University of Toledo, and then shortly after had her second child.
After a painful divorce, she started working for Lourdes University as a clinical instructor, then moved to community nursing, where she developed a heart for Cherry Street mission and had the opportunity to achieve clinical hours and love on the homeless population in downtown Toledo. Christy then cross-trained in dialysis because she always has to be doing 2 to 3 different things at a time and really settled into working with patients with long-term chronic health issues.
