The year 1872 was a quiet one by most accounts but still an important year in the history of Canada. It was the year that work on Treaty 3 had begun, and an ad was put out for a new police force to serve in the North West Territory. It was also the start of a Liberal dynasty in Ontario, and the federal election would be held with a scandal from it looming on the horizon to burst forth the following year.
